Riot to formally unveil League of Legends Classic at the MSI final on July 12
Riot Games will officially detail its League of Legends Classic project, which revives past season environments, at the MSI final in Daejeon on July 12.
Riot Games has teased a League of Legends Classic project that would let players revisit older versions of the game, and will share details today, July 12, on the stage of the 2026 Mid-Season Invitational final. Riot first introduced the idea on June 27 through a developer video on its official YouTube channel featuring executive producer Paul Bellezza and others. That video raised the possibility of recreating the game environments of seasons 1, 2, and 4, which players remember most fondly, as well as the beta period when only the original 40 champions existed.
The team said it is looking at nostalgia-driven elements such as restoring iconic items like Heart of Gold, early champion appearances, and beta-era balance. The project reads as an attempt by a game that has sustained popularity since its 2009 release to draw dormant players back. Interest in Korea is heightened this year because Hanwha Life Esports reached the MSI final.
