Summer MMORPG Comeback Wars — Night Crows 5th Class vs Arthdal's New Server vs MapleStory's Summer Update (July 2026)

Late July 2026 stacks Korean MMORPG and collectible RPG updates on top of each other. We compare Night Crows' 5th class advancement, Arthdal's NEW WORLD server, Tower of God's 3rd anniversary and MapleStory's second summer patch by what kind of player you are.

Peak summer season means Korean MMORPGs and collectible RPGs all firing off major updates and new servers at once, as if by agreement. The problem is that you only have one set of evenings and one wallet. If you've been thinking about reinstalling something, the real question is which door is worth walking back through right now. This piece splits the mid-to-late July pileup into three tracks: endgame progression, fresh starts, and low-commitment collecting. Every game name links to its exact date and platforms, and the wider schedule is on the New Servers & Events page.

For endgame players: breaking the ceiling

If you capped out months ago and ran out of places to grow, start here. The headline is Night Crows 5th class advancement, which opens a new progression tier for characters who already finished 4th awakening. It ships alongside guild hideouts, a higher "Immortal Element" grade and a reworked PvP ranking system. For anyone already competing near the top, this is a window to open the gap again.

PC players have a same-window alternative in the MapleStory second summer update. Every class gets its third 6th-job skill core, and crucially each one is designed around that class's own combat rhythm rather than copy-pasted — so the spec ceiling moves meaningfully. If you came back recently for the Lord Nine 2nd anniversary fifth relic or Lost Ark's new Dimensioner class, you'll notice this summer's progression content is unusually densely packed.

For fresh starts: new servers and resets

If the gap on established servers feels unbridgeable, a new server solves it. The one to watch is the Arthdal Chronicles NEW WORLD server, which removes all four paid summon gacha types outright. It's a farming-first server where progress comes from field exploration and content rather than payment — an experiment aimed squarely at players tired of spending races. If you missed the Arthdal Kravon server back in May, this is the second chance.

Lineage players have the Lineage M Void Temple renewal at the end of July, while anyone after a gentler life MMO should look at the Mabinogi RE:ACTION first update. And if you want no gacha at all, Dragonsword: Awakening — an anime-styled open-world action RPG hitting Steam on July 23 — is the buy-to-play option worth a look.

For lighter play: collectible RPGs

If you'd rather collect characters and follow a story than grind a competitive ladder, this track fits better. The Tower of God: NEW WORLD 3rd anniversary update adds new SSR+ ally Repellista plus login reward events, aimed at returning and new players alike. Three years in is a natural re-entry point for fans of the webtoon.

Adding fuel is the Honkai: Star Rail x Fate second collaboration. It brings limited 5-star Rin Tohsaka and hands out a free choice of Gilgamesh or Archer — a summer event that Hoyoverse players shouldn't skip. If you play mostly on phone, browse the rest of the Mobile Games category for other launches and patches.

The short version

Chasing competition and spec growth: Night Crows or MapleStory. Wanting a clean slate: Arthdal's NEW WORLD server or Dragonsword. Wanting characters and story without the pressure: Tower of God and the Star Rail collab. For more head-to-head comparisons of overlapping releases, our earlier entries cover the same ground, and the full new-server and major-update calendar keeps updating on New Servers & Events.
